The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association seeks a Gifts Officer who is responsible for maintaining and developing current supporters who are corporate sponsors, individual donors (mid-level), and current foundation supporters. The director works with the Board Chairman, President & CEO, VP Development, Board committees, senior management, and board members to identify new prospects. Position calls for demonstrated success in fund-raising, familiarity with foundations and government agencies that support the arts, and knowledge of the grant-making process. Works with senior management, development and financial staff to establish objectives and set goals.  This position reports to the VP, Development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of existing corporate, foundation and individual gifts, and seek new opportunities for funding  
  • While working together with the Manager of Development Operations, complete grant applications and reports 
  • Meet or exceed financial target from overall portfolio each year
  • Communicate key messages in all communications on FWSO strategy and goals set by Board, President and CEO, and VP, Development
  • With President & CEO and VP, Development, develop and maintain personal relationships with donors, key corporate contacts and foundation executives for concert season and Concerts in the Garden
  • Work with Manager for Development Operations to maintain an accurate calendar of submission deadlines and decision dates for grants and foundations
  • Prepare grant submission materials, with supporting financial information, well ahead of deadlines with support from Manager for Development Operations
  • Supervise grant and foundation applications and requests, acknowledgment of gifts, and tendering of required reports
  • Collaborate with Chairman of the Board, Board members, President and CEO, VP for Development, and Special Events Director on fund-raising initiatives, including the annual Gala
  • Responsible for assurance of donor benefit fulfillment, especially for Corporate Sponsors in concert season and Concerts in the Garden, while working with Manager for Development Operations, Special Event Director, Marketing department and VP for Development
  • Maintain a yearly cycle of stewardship and cultivation for each constituent
  • Research new foundation and corporate sponsorship opportunities
  • Maintain accurate and up to date Tessitura and paper files
  • Coordinate all activities with VP, Development
  • Involve VP, Development and / or President and CEO for significant new opportunities (e.g. planned gift, “one off” major annual gift, endowment gift)
  • As needed, support VP, Development and development team in donor event
  • Meet in person with corporate sponsors and individual donors
  • Other duties as requested

Desired Characteristics:

  • Undergraduate degree or higher, with outstanding writing skills
  • Knowledge of the symphonic repertoire and performing arts strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in fund-raising, ideally in a performing arts setting
  • Proven track record of maintaining and growing a portfolio of donor relationships
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Tessitura a plus
  • Team player
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Must be able to work with confidential information
  • Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities within specific time guidelines and ability to handle multiple responsibilities and within a specific time frame
  • Robust internal and external communication and customer service skills (written and oral)
  • Strong computer skills in database management (knowledge of Tessitura preferred), word processing, windows-based software, and general office equipment

Compensation:
Base salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Comprehensive health plan and paid parking are provided. Relocation assistance available, if required. 

Work Hours:
Standard work hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The position requires some evening and weekend work during performance season and Concerts in the Garden. This position is classified as exempt. Some work weeks may exceed the standard 40 hours per week.
